Tom was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1997 and has been registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1992.  Prior to being in private practice, he worked at Texas Instruments Inc., first as an Engineer in linear, mixed-signal technologies, and then in the Patent Acquisition and Enforcement Activity of the Texas Instruments Legal Department. 

Tom is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, and Cleveland Intellectual Property Association.  In addition, Tom authored the article Ford v. Lemelson and Continuing Application Laches, 79 J. Pat. & Trademark Office Soc’y 401 (1997).  Recently, the analysis of the above article was relied upon by the Federal Circuit in establishing the doctrine of prosecution laches in Symbol Technologies, Inc. v. Lemelson, 277 F.3d 1361 (Fed. Cir. 2002).
